What was your overall opinion of the book?
LOVED IT. I hadn’t read a Sarah Adams book before this weekend (I realised it’s the second book in a series so I read the first one on Sunday) but I’m hooked. This one in particular resonated with me a lot and was my kind of romance.
-
What was your favourite moment/scene in the book?
Really early on when the fake dating is proposed, Annie ends up chasing Will around her flower shop trying to snatch a letter out of his hand, and honestly it made me feel gooey as fuck. I love soft banter like that in books.
-
Which character did you like best/most identify with?
Annie and I are very similar in the way our dating life has played out (in that it simply hasn’t). I relate to her a lot - in her introversion, her inability to flirt, and generally hold a conversation with men she’s interested in. However I am also a big fan of Mabel, because Annie needs a matronly presence in her life after the loss of her parents at such a young age.
-
Did any themes or messages in the book change your perspective on anything?
It did highlight for me that grief isn’t always instant. Annie’s parents died when she was 3 but she never really managed to grieve them until her late 20s when she really needed a parental figure to help her through her feelings.
-
How did the author’s writing style impact your reading experience?
Sarah’s writing style is super easy and fun, it had me laughing out loud but also tearing up in certain places.
-
Was this book relatable to you in any way?
Annie is super relatable as I mentioned before but that’s about where the similarities end!
-
What is the one thing about this book you will remember, even a year from now?
The town meeting…
-
If this book was made into a movie, who would you cast?
Kiernan Shipka as Annie! And I have no idea for Will and I’ve already spent too long thinking about it :(
-
How likely would you be to recommend the book to someone else? (use a sliding scale of 1-5 if easier)
4. I thought it was great but it might be too cookie cutter for some readers!
