What was your overall opinion of the book?
Elsie Silver is always a fun, easy read! It was funny, it was emotional in places - a perfectly balanced romance book!
-
What was your favourite moment/scene in the book?
Hard to pick just one, but any of the dock scenes! Particularly the one where Rosie pushes Ford into the lake.
-
Which character did you like best/most identify with?
Personally, Rosie was an exceptionally likeable FMC. She was sunshine-y without being annoying, ballsy without feeling like a ‘pick me’ girl. And I totally understood the impulse to run away after the ordeal with her creepy boss and the, frankly, atrocious response from her boyfriend.
-
Did any themes or messages in the book change your perspective on anything?
This is a re-read for me, and I always remember that the first time I read this it changed the way I looked at having children. I don’t want children, but I would consider fostering or adopting a teenager if the timing was right. I know Ford didn’t technically adopt or foster, but he was so good with Cora!
-
How did the author’s writing style impact your reading experience?
I love Elsie Silver’s writing style! It never feels like a chore and she brings a humour to her books I’d never be able to come up with.
-
Was this book relatable to you in any way?
Not particularly, but it didn’t mean I enjoyed it any less. If anything, it was like a form of escapism.
-
What is the one thing about this book you will remember, even a year from now?
Shirtless, barefoot Ford Grant painting the walls of his new office after pettily firing the painter for flirting with Rosie.
-
If this book was made into a movie, who would you cast?
Obviously I’ve spent more time on this question than any other:
- Rosie Belmont played by Ella Ballentine
- Ford Grant Jr played by Rob Raco
- I think Eric Dane would’ve been an amazing Ford Grant Sr and Julianne Moore would be a really good Dr Gemma Grant!
-
How likely would you be to recommend the book to someone else? (use a sliding scale of 1-5 if easier)
Always recommend - 5
